Lead litigation and/or settlement counsel in litigation that resulted in over $10 billion dollars in recovery for:

  • Major U.S. and international oil companies for alleged pollution liabilities in excess of $5.0 billion and claims against dozens of U.S and international insurers.
  • A major US products company in connection with its breast implant products. Settled insurance coverage litigation for hundreds of millions of dollars in less than 6 months as separate settlement counsel after several years of litigation by other firms over the London market coverage.
  • A large California utility in a coverage dispute with multiple insurers over pollution related claims that resulted in a $60 million settlement before completion of discovery.
  • One of the world’s largest global banks in multi-country coverage litigation against insurers arising out of Enron and WorldCom liabilities.
  • One of the world’s largest auto manufacturers in coverage litigation in London, the U.S., and Bermuda relating to alleged pollution and asbestos liabilities.
  • A liquidating trust established for one of the largest natural resource companies in the U.S.
  • Senior management of Arthur Andersen after its liquidation began in settling over $1.0 billion in claims against over 50 international reinsurers of the company’s captive Bermuda insurer in litigation in 3 countries.

  • A small chemical manufacturer in connection with various regulatory investigations and lawsuits arising from deaths of workers involved in a chemical related accident.
  • A major tobacco company in connection with federal and state regulatory investigations involving alleged environmental issues.
  • Several American contract military personnel involved in an Al Qaeda bombing in Saudi Arabia.
  • Cantor Fitzgerald in connection with claims arising out of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in a lawsuit with several other firms against several members of the Saudi royal family, Saudi charities, Saudi banks and others.
  • Americans and Israeli citizens along with Motley Rice and several other firms in connection with financing of suicide bombings during the Second Intifada. The case resulted in a recovery reported in the press to be near $1.0 billion for American-Israeli citizens. Claims of Israeli citizens are now pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.
